James Desjardins is a Dene singer songwriter from Fort McMurray, Alberta, proud of his roots in the Buffalo River Dene Nation and driven by a voice that feels both familiar and new. He first picked up a guitar at age ten, and by seventeen he had written Drunken Love, the first hint of the storytelling instinct that would define his work. That spark grew into his debut album Black Patch Road in 2019, a collection of songs shaped by lived experience and the landscapes that raised him.
Since then James has carved out a steady and sincere presence in Canadian country music. He has toured across the country, including performances in remote Northern fly in communities where the audience meets the music with open hands. On festival stages he has shared lineups with icons like Streetheart, Trooper, and Johnny Reid, further sharpening his craft and broadening his sound.
James’ music has found a growing home online as well, gathering more than 270000 Spotify streams and over 70000 followers across social platforms. Songs such as Sometimes Times Are Tough and Take Me Home continue to bring in listeners who connect with his blend of soulful grit and heartfelt country storytelling.
In 2025 James steps into a new creative chapter with the release of his single Someone on Your Mind. The track rises on warm vocals and honest reflection, carrying the emotional weight of longing and connection. It also marks the beginning of his work with acclaimed Canadian producer Bart McKay, a partnership set to elevate and expand his artistic reach.
With each release James continues to grow into one of the most compelling emerging voices in Canadian country music. His sound honours tradition while reaching toward something modern and resonant, a mix of heart, heritage, and hard earned truth.
